Toastmasters International
Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. World wide Toastmasters has more than 352,000 members. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 16,400 clubs in 141 countries that make up our global network of meeting locations. By regularly giving speeches, gaining feedback, leading teams and guiding others to achieve their goals in a supportive atmosphere, leaders emerge from the Toastmasters program.
How It Works
For public speaking, most of us learn through practice and experience. A typical meeting gives members an opportunity to speak publicly in a variety of different roles. These roles include facilitating the meeting as the Toastmaster, presenting a Word of the Day, practicing impromptu speaking on a Table Topic, or being a Speaker and delivering a 5-7 minute speech .To help with the role of Speaker, each member receives a Competent Communicator manual of 10 speeches to deliver. Starting with an Ice Breaker speech, the speeches progress, working on specific points including body language, tone, and vocal variety.
